PDQ 4 Match Rpts

16th May - Boxted Vs Cavaliers

Boxted’s opponent this weekend in the PDQ league was Cavaliers. Further to it being one of the first games, Boxted’s hopes in doing well in division 4 were set high.

In completing the toss and Cavaliers commencing the batting, Boxted’s bowling attack started with Pickie and Nutter. With Nutter having 2 early successes and strong support by Pickie, Cavaliers saw a score of only 37 from 15 overs. With the first bowling change of Gary Green and Macca the pressure was maintained albeit the runs were seen to becoming more readily available as batter numbers 3 and 4 settled into a good rhythm. With continued wicket taking through the innings by the opening 4 bowlers and help by Wrighty and Honey, Boxted saw a target score of 202.

The batting attack commenced with Philler’s, Clive, Will and Macca who prior to losing their wicket produced a combined total of 134 during 25 overs. Unfortunately the proceeding batters didn’t offer such good support and a Boxted batting collapse was once again seen following a very promising start. The remaining line up achieved only 26 until the innings was over for a score of 160.

Boxted lose by 42 runs.

23rd May - Stebbing Vs Boxted

Boxted’s game against Stebbing started well with some hot warm weather and a well prepared strip. Unfortunately the game that proceeded wasn’t as good. Boxted, put into bat, commenced the innings and as far as to say the top score was 9, resulted in a very small final innings. After 1.50 hours Boxted were all out for 52 off 30 overs following a very competent bowling and fielding attack by Stebbing.

With such a small score to defend Boxted hit the field with more purpose than expected. Opening pair Pickie and Gary Green put on a good show for the 9 overs it took for Stebbing to hit 59. One good thing to take from game point was that the 2 wickets gained during these 9 overs were those who had seen scores well in advance of 50 in their previous 3-4 games and were on top form.

Boxted lose by 8 wickets.

13th June - North Springfield Wanderers Vs Boxted

During the second weekend of June, Boxted seconds were away to Northspring Field Wanderers with Hambo winning the toss and electing to field. The bowling attack started slowly with the home team scoring 60 runs in the first 10 overs. Following a change of attack with Sunny and Macca, the run rate was stemmed with a good phase of bowling and some committed fielding. The home team were limited to just 17 runs from the next 12 overs. Wickets fell at good intervals and the return of the opening pair, Pickie and Nutter saw a strong finish combined with Clive and Mark Wright in the final overs. Special mention goes to Sunny who put in a superb effort with the ball.

After tea Boxted set out for the 158 runs needed to win. Clive, unfortunately given out LBW early on saw Macca assisted by Phillers placed a firm foundation. Runs, provided by Mark Wright, Graham and Pickie all helped the cause but special mention goes to Hambo and Rob Nutter, both putting in a fantastic effort scoring 50 runs and securing the win for Boxted. Boxted victory was secured in the 43rd over by 2 wickets.
