Dear all,
I have already put this message out on the Boxted Whats App chat , but I thought there might be some other budding volunteers amongst the wider club. I would have put out to you a little earlier, but the scheduled date had been in doubt until yesterday due to Monday 19th September becoming a Bank Holiday for the Queen’s funeral.
Next Friday , 23rd September, from 9.00 am until mid PM (approx.) we have Suffolk Grounds Association ( SGA ) carry out our annual wicket renovation . This is particularly important this year because , due to the number of matches and the drought from June onwards , the pitch has suffered ( the ends are particularly worn ) and needs a lot of TLC. The SGA do the bulk of the work , but they are really only volunteers from either Sudbury or other clubs and charge a modest fee , so we do need to pitch in and help with :
- Carrying out 60 + bags of loam from our garage to the ends of each pitch .
- Removal of spoil from the scarifying process .
- Cutting and filling of loam bags into a spreader
- Fencing off the wicket to minimise intrusion
I appreciate Friday is a working day for most but is nigh on impossible for us to get a weekend date from them and, in any case, our task would likely be hampered by football matches, so it is what it is
If you can spend a few hours, either AM or PM or both ! , it would be much appreciated. The Boxted wicket is our most precious asset, so we need to make sure it stays in good condition.
Let me know either by e mail or phone/ text ( 07906 052722) if you can make it and for what period of time so that I can manage the “labour” as best possible on the day .
Kind regards
Steve Philpott .
